This year Imbibe Magazine named what they consider the 25 most influential cocktails in the past century. What’s the drink that you first felt comfortable ordering at the bar (or maybe still do?) For me, it was a vodka tonic. Simple to order – available at every bar. Check out this list, maybe you’ll see something you’ve always wanted to try.

I have a stack of names of people interested in cocktail class but I’d like to find a date that will work for everyone. We usually do it on a Saturday afternoon – but a Sunday afternoon could work too. Please put your comments in the comments to this blog post and we’ll find a time that works for the most people possible.
What is cocktail class?
Confused what to buy when you go into the liquor store? Sick of mixing flavored vodka with 7-up or juice? Want to invite people over for drinks but are intimidated by what to make them? The solution is here. The Blacksmith offers Tipsy, a cocktail class taught by one of the nation’s top mixologists, Columbine Quillen, in conjunction with Crater Lake Vodka and Bendistillery. It’s fun, it’s easy, and you’ll leave with an arsenal that will make you the Rachel Ray of mixology.

One of the most popular drinks we serve at the Blacksmith is the Cured Mary and people are always wondering how we make bacon vodka. We go through about two fifths a week at the bar and at any given time we have at least two gallons of vodka that is being steeped with bacon. Want to make bacon vodka at home – just follow this link.

Portland has such a plethora of amazing breweries that it simply amazes me that more continue to appear. If Upright Brewing isn’t on your radar, it should be. Currently pouring we have the Auld Reekie (a nickname for Edinburgh). This peat smoked amber ale could fit into several style categories; amber ale, rauchbier, or scotch ale. The balance between smoke, malt and hops is simply amazing. Come check out this fine brew sooner than later.

If you’re a fan of Russian River Brewing, then here’s a special treat! We’ve got Supplication on draft for a limited time. An incredibly unique brew, Supplication has been aged in French Oak Pinot Noir barrels, fermented with wild yeast, and includes sour cherries. This gives the beer an amazing depth of flavor. We’ll be pouring 10 ounces at a time into a snifter for your sipping pleasure, or 3 oz tastes for those who don’t want to commit but have to have the experience.
